attrition bias

— Systematic differences between treatment comparison groups in withdrawals or exclusions of participants from the results of a study.

Synonyms:

exclusion bias

Full forklaring:

Attrition or exclusion bias results from participants in a study not being included in the results when there are systematic differences between the people that are included, and the people that are not.

eksempel:

For example, participants may drop out of a study because of side effects of a treatment, and excluding these participants from the analysis could result in an overestimate of the effectiveness of the treatment, especially when the proportion dropping out varies by treatment comparison group.
