analytic perspective, viewpoint
The choice of perspective in an economic evaluation influences the types of resource use (costs) and other outcomes considered relevant for inclusion in the evaluation; i.e. depending on which stakeholders incur specific costs, or experience specific benefits or harms.
The perspective for a guideline recommendation determines the factors considered in making the recommendation, for example outcomes, costs, acceptability.
Examples of perspectives that can be adopted are government (e.g. the national government or local government), system (e.g. the health or social care system), multisector (e.g. the health and social care system), third-party payers (e.g. insurance companies), individual patients and their families or caregivers, and societal (i.e. encompassing all stakeholder groups within a society).
