subgroup analysis

— Analyses restricted to selected groups of participants in a study to assess whether effect estimates vary across subgroups.

Full forklaring:

Subgroup analyses are done to estimate a treatment effect in one or more defined subsets of the participants in a study or systematic review, for example, men and women, or people within different age groups.

The results of most subgroup analyses are uncertain because of insufficient data.

Consequently, the overall effect estimate often provides a better estimate of effect for a subgroup than the results of an analysis for a specific subgroup.
